Course Description

This one-day, intermediate level workshop is intended to fine-tune clinical reasoning and emphasize the art of INTEGRATING sensations within our treatment for functional outcomes. Highlighting the “Spokes on the Wheel” clinical reasoning tool, clinicians will learn to select various sensory opportunities simultaneously to impact the holism of integrating sensations that increase states of presence, regulation, and function. Through the lens of neurobiology this session will offer evidence-based thinking to assist with clinical reasoning and also increase the ability to express our reasoning to parents and teachers. Video tape analysis will offer treatment examples of INTEGRATION and demonstrate change in function when combining sensory interventions within our treatments.

Course Objectives:

The participant will be able to:

  1. Explain the art of integrating sensory input within the “Spokes on the Wheel” clinical reasoning tool.

  2. Examine the neurobiology of vestibular-visual integration as it applies to treatment.

  3. Distinguish the selection of vestibular-visual intervention strategies within a videotaped session.

  4. Examine the neurobiology of auditory-proprioceptive integration as it applies to treatment.

  5. Distinguish the selection of auditory-proprioceptive intervention strategies within a videotaped session.

  6. Examine the neurobiology of touch-proprioceptive-interoceptive integration as it applies to treatment.

  7. Distinguish the selection of touch-proprioceptive-interoceptive intervention strategies within a videotaped session.
