Course Description

A current hot topic in therapy is pelvic floor health, and function/dysfunction, especially as it relates to women and men. This course, however, is focused on infant and young children’s pelvic floor and how to incorporate anatomical and functional principles to provide additional therapeutic support. We will cover unique aspects of the pelvis, the influence of growth, neurodevelopmental maturation, and postural changes in infancy. Participants will learn practical application to assess and treat pelvic floor dysfunction through video case studies and experiential labs.

Course Objectives:

Participants will be able to:

Identify 3 unique features of the infant and young child’s pelvis.
Demonstrate understanding of pelvic floor function and impact on breathing, posture, and bowel bladder.
Demonstrate 3 therapeutic approaches to optimizing pelvic floor function.

Agenda

8:30 - 9:30 am: Check-in, breakfast provided, find your seat

9:30 – 9:35 am: Welcome, announcements, and speaker introduction

9:35 – 11:00 am: Anatomy and Function of the Infant and Young Child Pelvic Floor

11:00 – 11:15 am: Morning Break

11:15 – 12:45 pm: Treatment rationale and functional indications for addressing the pelvic floor

12:45 – 1:15 pm: Lunch

1:15 – 2:45 pm: Considering the pelvic floor with breathing, feeding, posture and more

2:45 – 3:00 pm: Afternoon Break

3:00 – 4:30 pm: Pelvic Floor Lab / Question and Answer

Instructional Methods

The speaker will be using a lecture with slides, case studies and time allotted for question & answer.

Course Requirements

In order to qualify for AOTA CEUs, you must attend at least 3 hours of the course (for partial credit), meet at least 2 of the objectives for the course and sign in and out on the sheets provided documenting your attendance at the course. After completing a self-evaluation, you will be emailed a course certificate within one week of the event.
