Completion of the course "Part 1: Interoception, The Eight Sense: Impact on Regulation, Emotional Well Being and Social Connection" taught as a live webinar at the 2021 IE Symposium or available on-demand through August 31st, 2023, or a comparable course on interoception from Dr. Kelly Mahler that provides an understanding of the basic principles of the Interoceptive Curriculum: A Step-by-Step Guide to Developing Mindful Self-Regulation.

Course Description

In this follow up course, learning will focus on how to help a wide variety of clients to understand the body signals they are noticing, and to regulate these body signals with actions individualized to their unique inner experience. Some of the latest interoception science will be reviewed, compared and contrasted to what we are learning from lived experience. Additionally, a 3-part approach to nurturing interoceptive awareness will be shared (Body, Emotion, Action), including a focus on several practical strategies for the latter 2 parts: Emotion—or connecting body signals to the meaning and Action—or using feel-good actions to regulate body signals.

 

Course Objectives:

Participants will be able to:

  1. Generate a description of interoceptive awareness to share with clients, families and other stakeholders.

  2. Identify at least 3 strategies that support the understanding and regulating of body signals.

  3. Explain the importance of a 3-part approach to nurturing interoceptive awareness.

8:00 am - 9:00 am CST: Interoception & Emotion: how the latest interoception science and reports of lived experience update our practice

9:00 - 9:30 am CST: Connecting Body signals to the Emotion: Practical Strategies and Considerations.

9:30 - 9:45 am CST: Break

9:45 am - 10:15 am CST: Continue with Connecting Body signals to the Emotion: Practical Strategies and Considerations.

10:15 am - 11:15 am CST: Regulating body signals with Feel-good Actions: Practical Strategies and Considerations.

Course Requirements

Live Webinar: Full attendance is required for course certificates to be issued for live webinar attendance; if you miss a portion of the course, you may watch the recording and follow the below course requirements.  After completing a self-evaluation, you will receive a course certificate.

On-Demand: Following completion of the entire course including a passing score of 80% on the post-course quiz, the participant will be issued a course completion certificate.
